This 7-piece "Soul-Jazz" group was formed in February 1998 in Jackson MS. and still enjoys continued success in clubs as well as festivals and private functions throughout the state.

The first CD "Loose Wig" was released in the fall of 1998 and as a result of the disc’s popularity and fresh approach, THE VAMPS received the “Jazz Group of the Year” award at the 1999 Jackson Music Awards. In 2001 they released their second CD "Angle Not Distance" and are anticipating recording a live CD in the near future. Over the past few years the group has opened for such artists as jazz saxophonist Tom Scott , Los Hombres Calientes and the New Orleans based funk group All That, as well as being featured performers at festivals such as Jubilee Jam and Red Beans and Rice.

THE VAMPS rely on classic tunes from the groovy "Jive Samba" by Nat Adderley to the funky "Hottentot" by John Scofield. Mix that with many original compositions by guitarist Barry Leach, throw in a "rhumba-esque" version of The Beatles "You Can't Do That", some Funky Meters, as well as other classics arranged to fit their unique sound, and you
have a representation of what THE VAMPS are all about.
